What is Resident Evil 2 worth [Avis & Review]

Resident Evil 2 is a game of horror survival type initially released in 1998. It’s a shooting game third person developed by Capcom. Rehabilitation of the excellent 2nd episode, you will have to survive in the city of Raccoon City or one mysterious virus populated the city of zombie, Cerberes and Lickers of all kinds.

 Total remake or novelty ?

Resident Evil 2 is a improved version of the second episode on Playstation 1 (released a few years earlier). This revisit brings its lot of novelties :

  • Graphic rehabilitation,

  • New game elements reviewed and added.

First, we find the 2 main characters Clair Redfield and Leon Kennedy. Their mission is to find a G virus sample and of find the brother of Clear. You will alternate between the 2 characters.

We also find the main events and places who have been slightly modified. The city of Raccoon city is more urban than the first opus with the presence of many new buildings.

The very first change is seen in level of immersion offered to players with sequences of shots in shoulder camera by Capcom teams. The other news relate to details provided by the game card. I personally remember being lost in the labyrinth of Raccoon City. On this new opus, the information is clear with some areas in red for places already visited, doors open or not … etc.

Theinterface has been improved. The player finds documents reviewed and better highlighted with more information and colored elements.

The best improvement provided by Capcom teams is located at weapon level. The player finds multiple evolutions as :

  • The charger capacity,

  • The silent weapons,

  • Theimproved damage,

  • The possibility ofequip with a second tier weapon ((grenades or knives). What can be useful, with often limited ammunition. To avoid being short, the player must, using the target, take the take care to shoot enemies' heads for some more effective frags and especially for save bullets.

The ammunition should be used with caution and so will even for inventory. The number of transportable objects is limited. The player will to make choices conscientiously.

Big changes to scenario level 

Contrary to 1st opus released in 1998, the story does not take place with two separate scenarios. The 2 scenarios are mixed for a story with totally different branches. When the player goes to Gunshop Kendo, the situation is different and the shop owner will not be devoured by a zombie horde. The course of the story will be more touching, but we do not tell you more, our Review is promised without spoiler.

The multiple puzzles who will accompany the player throughout the adventure, differ in their originality. For example, when the player ends up in the young skin Ada, a device will see through the walls. he will activate terminals which allowopen doors giving access to unknown places. These are puzzles with multiple branches.

The gunfight scenes are combined with many zombies who will try to devour the character. The tension will increase with creatures that appear without warning, giving back to the title its letters of nobility with its famous "Jump scare" or "Scary start".

Theanother new feature of Resident Evil 2 resides in a whole new sequence with the Sherry's presence in an orphanage. The scene where the player has to fight the alligator was reviewed and made more difficult for our favorite character Leon.

The indestructible boss T103 is also present and will boost adrenaline. It will appear from time to time to relentlessly tracking the player with unwavering determination. Her action area is enlarged, it will open the doors and the player will hear your heavy steps getting closer and closer, as he progresses.

The shoulder camera view for better immersion

It's about a view given to the player placed close to the body and very close to your shoulder for reinforce immersion and give him the impression that he can be devoured anytime during the game.Thanks to these close-ups, the "Bursts" will be legion. It is not uncommon to jump when the head of a zombie comes to occupy almost the entire surface of the screen to better surprise us.

The genre FPS is strengthened. He will be easier to aim thanks to a camera which is in the enemy direct line. We regret, however, not being able to play at first sight as for all FPS games, that is to say without seeing the character with just the weapon in front that points in the desired direction.

Furthermore, the cross of the lever allows to seize the weapons desired more easily and from change quickly. This new title is more action oriented than the previous component with a simplified inventory which better immerse the player in the heart of the action.

About the "Gore effects", the title is particularly success. The more the player shoots a zombie the more your body breaks down into small pieces. Thebullet impact is particularly well reproduced. The effect is still more striking with the shoulder camera when a zombie jumps on us. Blood lovers will undoubtedly appreciate the precision work carried out by Capcom.

We can salute the work of Capcom who knew positively evolve the game in a different title with many new aspects. On the script plan, thanks to unpublished scenes, the boss fights have been revised upwards, bringing a better freedom movement than in the past. We note that the T103 is much more scary.

The mechanical games have been improved with the presence of additional puzzles, so dear to the Resident Evil series.
