Weber’s smart barbecue evolves
When Weber launched SmokeFire, its first smart barbecue earlier this year, the criticism was overwhelming. The company made unique design choices that set it apart from the competition.
She also set up a guided experience which made it possible to cook without stress. However, the Weber Connect app lacked basic features like remote temperature control and detailed notifications.

SmokeFire receives massive update
From the start, the company made it clear that it plans to release regular updates to improve its SmokeFire smart barbecues. This is today done.
Although the first major update for SmokeFire arrived a few months later than expected, everyone working from health home, Weber released a massive update in late May.
“In the app today compared to a month or two ago, there are a lot more notifications and features. “Said Chris Scherzinger, CEO of Weber. “There is a lot more video content and better integration between the barbecue and the phone, in terms of data consistency.

Setting the temperature on the phone
First of all, you can now adjust the temperature from your phone.
Weber has also made push notifications more informative. Before, the application sent you a generic message. Something like “tap to find out more”. Rather than educating yourself on what’s really going on with the barbecue.
SmokeBoost arrives on SmokeFire
As promised, Weber has added a feature that allows you to really saturate your food with smoke at the start of cooking. This function, called SmokeBoost, allows you to set the grill between 165 and 200 degrees during this initial period. The Weber Connect app provides time indications based on the foods you cook.
“What we didn’t want was to make this visibility of the temperature a source of concern. If something goes out of these parameters, we have actions that are automatically taken to respond to that. “
Currently, SmokeBoost is independent of barbecue presets that give you cooking instructions and estimated cooking times. You perform the function for the recommended time. Then you can select the preset corresponding to what you are cooking.

Always more updates
Following the recent software update, a major firmware update was also carried out last week. First, Weber has improved warm-up times. Basically, SmokeFire grills reach their target temperature faster. In addition, the new firmware also reduces fluctuations during preheating or broiling.
And Weber hasn’t finished. Scherzinger said the company continues to work on the regular updates it promised. The challenges of working at a distance have slowed down some aspects of the workflow. In particular the new cooking programs. Weber failed to assemble its culinary and technical teams in the same room to sort out the new additions. But Scherzinger is clear: they are coming. And you won’t have to wait long.
Part of these new cooking programs are presets that are based on time rather than a calculation between the barbecue temperature and the internal temperature of your food.
“The next wave of cooking programs will launch on June 15,” said Mr. Scherzinger.
