We tested Pavlok, the bracelet that launched discharges smart health innovation
Pavlok is a slightly special bracelet. Its purpose is to prevent you from reproducing poor behavior. And for that, it gives you electric shocks. We suffered for you.
An unusual principle
It’s sure that in the midst of the plethora of objects supposed to gently improve your health or your physical activity, Pavlok does a little bit of a task. But what if it was the solution? The idea, record a prohibited gesture or place (smoking, going to hit a burger king etc …) and vou give dumps when you break this rule that you set for yourself. Knowing that the discharge can reach 255 Volts, that clearly motivates.

Prototype Review
Pavlok sent us a copy of his famous bracelet, still in prototype form. Therefore, the photos are not representative of the end product. We will not dwell on criticizing the appearance of the bracelet. What you have to remember is that it is enough to connect the device in Bluetooth with your smartphone or tablet (in this case an American iPad) to configure it. We were able to try the different alerts given by the bracelet. It is therefore not compulsory to take a discharge and it is not so bad.
Vibration
Possible to set on a scale from 1 to 255. Logically, the higher you put a number, the more the device vibrates. If it is not necessarily pleasant at least it is more painful.
Noise
There is an audible alert ranging from 1 to 6. The noise is loud enough to call you to order. One way like another.
Electrical shock
This is where the serious stuff begins. If the landfills below 50 volts are clearly bearable, above, between 50 and 150 it quickly becomes unpleasant. As we are crazy, we decided to push up to 255 volts (the maximum allowed by the application), and to take turns in discharges. The least we can do is feel it pass. Almost painful, the discharge is still quite powerful. From our point of view, no need to push the vice to the maximum to keep from breaking the rules that we have set.
Verdict
It is always difficult to decide on a prototype because some things will change, sometimes a lot, but on what we saw, in addition to the fun side of being able to make his friends try to take a discharge, we found the interest of the device questionable. In addition, in the final version, you will have to be shocked to configure the gestures not to reproduce, not necessarily super pleasant, and then above all, you want a BigMac, you take off the bracelet. Strictly speaking, smokers, who are often used to the gesture, may find it beneficial. Still, if on paper, the principle is funny, after two weeks, you probably get tired quickly.
