Virtuix is developing a health home version of its Omni VR mat

Virtuix’s Omni VR treadmill will soon be available as a more compact consumer version of the device.

Virtuix plans to ship the gaming-focused Omni One in the second half of 2021. The system will cost $ 1,995.

Once you’ve strapped in, you’ll be able to move your character around in the game by walking or physically running. The Omni One, which allows for 360-degree movement, will also detect squats and knees. The set includes a VR headset, so you won’t need to plug in an Oculus Rift or whatever. Virtuix and third-party developers are working on games for the system, and there will be more than 30 available at launch.

You won’t need to reserve a large floor space for an Omni One – it’s four feet in diameter. It is also supposed to be easy to fold up.

Virtuix says he applies the “Peloton model to the game”. After all, both companies are into health home fitness games. Omni One will have a monthly subscription, which you will need to pay to play online. But also access rankings and be eligible for contests and prizes. The games can be purchased separately; including some popular third-party VR titles that won’t require you to move on the treadmill.

Developers who want to make games for Omni One can purchase a development kit for $ 975. At the same time, Virtuix is leading a fundraising campaign to publicize the system.

Those who invest $ 1,000 will receive shares of the company as well as a discount of up to $ 800 on an Omni One. They will also have the first rights to the conveyor belt from the start of production.

Until now, Omni systems have been mostly available in entertainment centers like Dave’s and Buster’s. The COVID-19 pandemic has temporarily slowed sales of Virtuix, Omni Pro and Omni Arena commercial treadmills; which prompted him to speed up work on Omni One. The initial goal was to ship the system in 2022.
