This is what Sony's e-paper smartwatch looks like

After the news magazine Bloomberg recently reported on an e-paper watch from Sony, the Wall Street Journal now seems to have solved the mystery of the look and functionality of the gadget. As a kind of Review run, Sony apparently already has its e-ink watch launched as a crowdfunding projectto be able to estimate how many customers would jump on such a piece of technology.

As a Sony spokesman told the WSJ, the company is behind the FES watch, for which a financing campaign is currently underway. And Bloomberg's description of an e-ink timepiece that also shows content on his wristband applies exactly to this crowdfunding watch. Also, as already suspected, the FES Watch is more of a fashion accessory than a smart health watch – to be precise, it is "only" a fashion accessory.

The FES Watch can do nothing other than change the look of the dial and bracelet. In this regard, however, it offers 24 design variations and manages 2 months on one battery charge. Otherwise, it does not offer any smart functions that make up a so-called smartwatch. However, owners of such a fancy e-paper watch will also be able to use it in the future matching e-paper flies put on, maybe at some point also changing their neckties. In a video, the developers behind the FES Watch demonstrate, for example, e-paper glasses and e-paper shoes.

According to the WSJ, the FES Watch is only one of the first products in a Sony project called "Fashion entertainments". The researchers and employees involved have set themselves the task of finding out how electronic paper technology can be combined with fashion products. We are excited to see what comes after wristwatch, bow tie and glasses …
