health home appliance designers like LG are trying to make your household chores easier. The LG Hom-Bot Turbo VR9647PS vacuum cleaner seeks to democratize smart vacuum cleaners in all homes. Presented at CES 2016, the vacuum cleaner from the Korean manufacturer presents serious arguments to compete with its opponents, starting with Dyson.

Like all household appliances, the LG Hom-Bot Turbo plus is delivered in a large box with all the accessories necessary for its proper functioning. Once the box is opened, the contents of the box are divided into two stages: the first part with the spare parts plus the remote control and the second with the vacuum cleaner and its base station. All protected by polystyrene structures so that surrounds all of the equipment delivered.

On the first floor, there are first two spare side brushes for the vacuum cleaner remarkable for their green color. An additional dust filter, a rotating brush, a micro-fiber wipe holder and a maintenance tool. Add to that a remote control with two LR03 AAA batteries and a USB cable and you’ll have the perfect set to properly maintain your vacuum. It is therefore necessary that you carefully keep all these elements.

Finally, the bottom of the box contains the charging base of the LG Hom-Bot Turbo plus with its socket for the health home. Obviously the vacuum cleaner is also integrated, with a significant weight: around 6kg. Everything related to the user manuals are also located on this level, with an explanatory flyer for using the application. The strong point of all this is that there is no need to mount the elements: the vacuum cleaner is ready for use.

Design and Ergonomics of the LG Hom-Bot Turbo plus

The LG Hom-Bot Turbo plus has a design all the same similar to its predecessors: a square but rounded shape on the corners, all helped by the side brushes in order to cover as much surface as possible. Its chrome metal gray color gives a very appreciable modern side which will adapt perfectly to new furniture. Same thing for the base station which does not swear with the vacuum cleaner. Be careful though with the colors that are prone to scratches.

All the options buttons placed on the top of the vacuum cleaner are still discreet enough not to overload the design of the device. The base station is also discreet in the furniture, especially when the vacuum cleaner is charging. There is only one major constraint for the LG Hom-Bot, it is the fact that the base station must be placed on the ground with a free space.

What is remarkable with the LG Hom-Bot Turbo plus is the work done on the design and finish. Everything is done to highlight the high-end side of the product. The elements are placed so that the device is functional and discreet. Even the front camera remains discreet so as not to be too intrusive. In addition, the device is relatively small which will allow it to go almost anywhere in your health home.

Application of LG Hom-Bot Turbo plus

The smart health connected vacuum cleaner can operate in two different ways: either via the remote control; either via an application. For this, users must download the Smart ThinQ LG application available on IOS and Android to create a free account. Indeed, the application allows you to record each item of household appliances from LG. The guidance is very simple, but beware: you absolutely need a Wi-Fi connection to be able to use link the vacuum cleaner to the application.

Once the vacuum cleaner is smart health connected to the mobile, simply select it on the application to be able to use it. On the health home page, you can choose how the device works. As a first step, we recommend that you press the round symbol next to the name of the device.

The camera activates, shows the images in real time and you can operate the vacuum cleaner from your smartphone. To do this, the controls are extremely simple: an interface to turn the vacuum cleaner left or right and a button to advance the device. The big highlight of this feature is the fact that you can direct the vacuum cleaner anywhere. In addition, the vacuum cleaner perfectly manages collisions in the face of visible obstacles.

However, if you want to use the other features, just touch the screen of your smartphone and choose the option you want. You can choose from Zig Zag, My Space or Zone by Zone. Finally, if you decide to leave the vacuum cleaner on standby during your absence, the Hom Guard function which sends you real-time photos of the images of your room.

Using the LG Hom-Bot Turbo plus

First, it is essential to switch the activation button to ON, this advice seems obvious but it is still necessary as the button is discreet on the machine. Then, via the Smart ThinQ application, using the LG Hom-Bot Turbo plus is fairly intuitive and ultimately very simple despite all the installation procedures to do. The vacuum cleaner must be installed and charged on the base station. As soon as the device is turned on, just use the app to use the vacuum cleaner in real time.

However, if your smartphone is not by your side, you can always use the remote control to program the operating mode of the vacuum cleaner. Of course, the use is more laborious but the automation of the device manages the cleaning of the room. Be careful, however, not to have a lower surface because the vacuum cleaner does not manage falls at all.

The performance of the LG Hom-Bot Turbo plus is correct, but beware of the suction capacity of the device which is still very average. If this one manages very well everything that is sheep and dust, expect some difficulties for more substantial dirt. Finally the noise of the device respects the normal intensity threshold with a sound going up to 60db.

To conclude on the programs, these are very simple to set up, it is enough for the vacuum cleaner to do a reconnaissance tour of the area so that it can manage the cleaning of the areas automatically. The only downside is the daily programming: it is impossible to set different suction times depending on the day.

The LG Hom-Bot Turbo plus VR9647PS against the competition

The most serious competitor to the LG Hom-Bot Turbo plus is undoubtedly the Dyson 360 Eye. Both are based on the same price height and they are both high-end products. If the performance of the Dyson in suction quality is much higher than that of the LG, the latter compensates by the plurality of options that its product offers. Indeed, in addition to the different programs offered, the Hom-Bot's on-board camera allows you to activate the Hom-Guard mode which will be your eyes when you are not at health home.

If the Hom-Bot tries to compensate for the lack of quality of suction by pals which cover the corners, the great quality of the product lies in its use via the application. Indeed, the real-time control of the vacuum cleaner makes cleaning more fun. At the same price, the Dyson offers better suction quality, but the LG application is much simpler and more fun. We are on a 50/50 ratio between the two products.
