Telemedicine study: more work to convince the French

[ad_1]

With the pandemic context, the uses of teleconsultation have greatly increased, especially during periods of confinement. One year after this boom, the Capterra company conducted a study to understand the place of telemedicine today in France. Selected pieces.

For this study, Capterra questioned 1,017 French people about their vision of telemedicine today and for the post-pandemic. The first element that emerges is that 72% of the people questioned have never tried the remote medical consultation. The results of the study allow us to make two observations: those who have tried it have adopted it and those who have never teleconsulted seem little inclined to want to try it.

An adoption by those who have used teleconsultation

Among respondents who have already experienced a teleconsultation, 89% say that it was their very first online consultation and that it was carried out during the pandemic. On the typology of consultations, 35% were related to symptoms similar to those of COVID-19 and 65% concerned other situations or symptoms.

It is mainly the general practitioner (62%) who was popular for remote medical consultations, and to a lesser extent certain specialists in internal medicine (11%), psychiatrists (9%), gynecologists (9%) and dermatologists (7%).

Among the advantages put forward by the people questioned, 47% favored access to a diagnosis and obtaining a prescription from their health home as well as reduced access time and reduced risk of contagion.

Successful experiences will allow teleconsultation to become a habit: 14% indicate that they will use this method of consultation more often and 56% will continue to use it as much as they do today.

As for the disadvantages, the main cited are the inability to conduct a thorough physical examination (64%) and some discomfort felt during an interaction by interposed screen: 34% feel more comfortable in front of their doctor.

Persistent brakes for a majority of French people

Among the respondents, 72% have never used telemedicine which can be explained by several reasons:

  • a lack of information (research and choice of a doctor offering teleconsultation, mastery of an online platform or a device, etc.)

  • a need for a physical examination for certain pathologies

  • a certain skepticism in the face of a diagnosis provided at a distance

However, 46.5% of them are not closed to the idea of testing this approach from a distance by emphasizing the practical side (no travel, less waiting) and / or the possibility of reducing the risks. contagion.

53.50% of respondents do not plan to use it in the future for various reasons:

  • service not offered by their attending physician (31%)

  • a commitment to face-to-face consultation (67%)

Methodology: pTo collect the data for this report, Capterra conducted an online survey in April 2021 with a panel of 1,017 French people. They were selected according to the following criteria: being over 18 years old, residing in France, and having consulted a health professional at least once in the past 12 months. They all come from various industries.
