TAG Heuer cooperates with Intel & Google for luxury smartwatch

The Baselworld, the most important watch and jewelry fair of the year, is currently taking place in Switzerland. At its press conference in Basel, luxury watchmaker TAG Heuer announced that it was working with Intel and Google to develop a smartwatch that runs Android Wear OS.

Together, the three companies want to “produce a luxurious and intelligent smartwatch that blends seamlessly into the wearer's living environment and sets new standards in terms of innovation, creativity and design,” says the Press release in the Intel newsroom.

Otherwise, there are a few more paragraphs full of self-adulation in the press release – but unfortunately no details on how the watch could then look like. After Android Wear is used, one can assume a high-resolution display. And I am incredibly excited to see how the TAG Heuer will combine in practice with a classic luxury watch that may also have a mechanical movement.

Maybe we can see something here in the style of the Kairos smartwatch – in other words a mechanical watch that has a transparent display built into the disc above the dial. If I wanted to buy a smartwatch in the TAG Heuer price range, I would prefer such a model to an Apple Watch Edition.
