[ad_1]
Would you like to continue your professional development and become an expert in digitalization in the healthcare sector? The Tyrolean private university UMIT will be offering the advanced master’s degree in medical informatics from autumn 2021.
Qualified medical informatics are in great demand in all healthcare facilities and the healthcare industry. For this reason, UMIT Tirol will be offering the new advanced master’s degree “Medical informatics” at. The course is aimed at graduates with a bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject.
The past year once again impressively demonstrated the enormous opportunities that digitization offers in the healthcare sector. Applications such as virtual doctor visits, mobile health apps, intelligent and networked patient files or “AI” for decision support are essential for future-proof healthcare. New high-performance methods of analyzing health-related data enable deep insights for medical research (“data science”). These developments will sustainably advance the health system of the future and change health care.
Medical informatics is the key discipline for these developments and therefore far more than “computers in health care”. It describes how medical information and clinical knowledge is created, how it is shared and how it is used meaningfully in patient care and research. Medical informatics is a major driving force behind the development of health care and is as important today as anatomy and pathology were in the last century.

Clinical information systems
Health Data & Decision Science
Health networking and TeleHealth
biomedical technology
In the third semester, the individual subject specialization and profile formation takes place. For this purpose, a wide range of individually selectable courses from a wide range of UMIT TIROL or our international partner universities is available (in module 14). In the practical project (module 15), a specific practical problem is worked on using the methods learned in cooperation with a health facility or a health IT company. For this purpose, the private university can fall back on its broad cooperation network – including the Tirol Kliniken, for example. In the fourth semester, the master thesis is written and defended.
Career prospects
The master’s degree enables graduates to pursue a wide range of professional activities with various employers, e.g. in public and private health institutions, in hospitals and care and social institutions, in the health IT industry (software, hardware, medical technology), in health IT consulting companies, in Institutions of social security and statutory health insurance, in universities and research institutions, at manufacturers of medical devices, in health authorities, in the public service and in public administration.
An important core task for graduates is the solution of relevant problems from practice or research through analysis, conception, introduction and evaluation of modern IT solutions in health care as well as their support and continuous further development according to the state of practice and research.
Depending on previous qualifications, individual specialist specialization and professional experience, the professional employment opportunities include IT project management or team or department management in health facilities or in health networking, in requirements engineering, solution engineering or product management, in software quality assurance, sales or customer management , in approval and quality management of medical devices, in advising health facilities, in clinical data analysis, in research and development departments as well as in the collaboration or management of academic research projects. For the best possible employability of the graduates, the qualification profile is geared towards the international comparability of the training, but of course also takes into account the regional and national context.
