Smartwatches with Android Wear can now also use mobile radio

So far, if you wanted to use a smartwatch with Android Wear (useful), a smartphone was required. Google is now lifting this constraint: From now on, Android Wear watches with a SIM slot can also receive messages, notifications, calls, etc. when the cell phone is not within range.
Android Wear has actually become quite widespread among manufacturers of smartwatches – at least as long as they don't equip the watches with their own SIM slot. Android Wear has so far not supported any mobile phone modules, and accordingly LG is using a proprietary operating system for its first Urban LTE.
This is now changing: As Google has officially announced, Android Wear can now also use mobile communications. And for example, if you jog in the undergrowth away from all WiFi hotspots and without a smartphone, you will also receive notifications on your wrist, can receive and send messages and yes, even make calls.
Appropriately, the first model is already in the starting blocks that fully exploits the new function: the second generation of the LG Watch Urbane LTE – now with Android Wear instead of a proprietary operating system. The watch starts this month in the USA and South Korea and is expected to be commercially available in Germany in the coming months.
