Polar Grit X Review price review: ultra-resistant and lightweight design race and sport smart health connected watch, the competitor to the Suunto 9 and Garmin Fenix 6.

Polar Grit X: complete smart health watch design and resistance

Polar has unveiled its most advanced sports watch to date – the powerful Polar Grit X, which is aimed at elite runners and outdoor enthusiasts.

Polar Grit X design and features

The Polar Grit X GPS running watch targets the Garmin Fenix 6 and Suunto 9, with excellent battery life and a new focus on performance, nutrition and recovery for endurance athletes.

It includes a 1.2 inch color touch screen, protected by a type laminated glass Gorilla Glass with anti-fingerprint coating and a resolution of 240 x 240. All in a 47mm forged stainless steel case water resistant up to 100 meters.

On the right side there is an OK button which allows you to confirm the selections made with the up and down arrow buttons which allow you to move through the lists. On the left side, a dedicated button lights up the screen, above a back / menu / synchronization button. We find the finish of the buttons superb with their grip effect.

Note that the light button (left side lights up the screen for a few seconds before turning off automatically. Inside, the screen is rather dark without this additional light, but you can still read. But, as the watch is truly designed for outdoor use, the screen is then easy to read without the light.

The smart health connected watch is built according to the military standard MIL-STD-810G, including resistance to high temperatures, drops, and humidity.

Characteristics

It weighs only 64g, which makes it about 30% lighter than the Garmin Fenix 6 (83g). Of course, there is also the company's Precision Prime Optical HR sensor.

  • 1.2 inch screen with a resolution of 240 x 240.

  • Dimensions 47 x 47 x 13 mm.

  • Weight of 64 g with bracelet, 44 g without bracelet.

  • GLONASS and GPS integrated.

  • Barometric altitude, slope, elevation + and elevation -.

The bracelet is basic with its robust and comfortable silicone construction for sports activities. It can be changed for a more urban look.

Record autonomy in outdoor activity

With its 346 mAh Lithium-Polymer battery, it promises 40 hours of full continuous monitoring, which can be increased up to 100 hours thanks to energy saving modes. A real asset for runners and hikers who will be away from electricity for long periods.

The autonomy achieved at 7 days in watch mode with continuous heart rate monitoring.

Race and nutrition management software Polar Grit X

But it's the features of the software that really set the Grit X apart from the competition. The Hill Splitter function lets you plan climbs, plan descents and work to keep up the pace on both climbs and descents, and training reports let you know if you're wasting time.

In addition to the Hill Splitter, the Grit X also records the running power, which allows you to run on exercise rather than pace. Running power is increasingly used as a GPS monitoring measure, especially for elite runners who like to be guided by effort rather than the terrain.

Nutrition management during and after exercise

And for those who spend hours on the slopes, the FuelWise v functionwe will call back when you need to drink or eat, and how much carbohydrate you need. This will allow you to stick to a carefully planned nutritional intake when things get worse halfway.

Nutrition is also taken into account in post-workout analysis, and recovery also shows the amount of carbohydrates, protein and fat burned, to help you replace what you lost faster.

Komoot partnership

Polar has also partnered with Komoot for GPS tracking and driving directions on the watch itself – plus two days of local weather.

FitSpark played an important role in the Polar Ignite project, and the company's training plans are also making an appearance here on the Grit X, which uses the watch's recovery and training data to adapt to the way your body feels.

Sleep tracking

Biometric analysis is also integrated into sleep tracking, which measures and retrieves data, while providing a nighttime sleep score, just like Fitbit, Garmin and other classic sleep tracking programs.

At night, the Grit X tracks your deep, light and paradoxical sleep, as well as any interruptions. The app shows a graph of your sleep cycles so you can see how they fluctuated during the night, and exactly when and how long you were in each stage of sleep.

It also gives you a daily sleep score of 1 to 100, based on how your closed eye compares to "indicators of a good night's sleep according to current sleep science." According to Polar, a typical sleep score is between 70 and 85.

Polar Flow app and site

The Polar Grit X watch works with the Polar Flow smartphone app and web platform that records all your training, your activity and your sleep data, as well as your training programs and the synthesis of your progress, in a single and unique easily accessible space at any time.

Another benefit of Polar Flow is that you can synchronize all of your data with third-party apps like Strava or TrainingPeaks.

Price and availability Polar Grit X

The Grit X is currently on sale for 429 euros and will be sold exclusively by Polar. It should then be marketed on traditional platforms like Amazon (like the Vantage M, the Polar ignite where theM600).

First review Polar Grit X

The Polar Grit X is among the best multisport GPS watches in its class, with robust construction and an attractive design for everyday wear.

It benefits from good autonomy and a host of useful functions with its integrated GPS, a compass and an altimeter in training mode, as well as exclusive Polar Smart Coaching functions which allow you to do your training program.
