Snapchat Spectacles: glasses to film all day
Finally. This should be the first word that comes to mind of Snapchat social network addicts since the company’s announcement. While Spectacles glasses have been launched since the end of 2016 in the United States, they finally arrive in Paris and in other European cities. They can thus be found in Barcelona, Venice, Berlin and London.
We told you about this product in September 2016. Spectacles smart health connected glasses are a Snapchat exclusive that allows you to make videos in a rounded format, sensitive to the human eye. The similarity in concept is pretty obvious with the late Google Glass. However, while the Mountain View firm’s model was geared toward a geeky audience, Snapchat Shows are intended for the adolescent public who use its service massively. They are the ones, of course, who could allow this model to work but also the business to survive. In the first quarter, it spent $ 2.3 billion and earned only $ 149 million. A ratio that is difficult to assume while its user rate is still climbing very slowly.
Life is not a permanent spectacle

The big question everyone is asking is: “Is it really useful?”. It all depends on your relationship to the social network. If you can't help but “snap” anything that moves during your day, so yes, Shows are made for you. For the majority of people, these smart health connected glasses will remain a gadget, a “cool thing” to use from time to time to give you a Marty McFly look lost in the future. Life is not a permanent spectacle, contrary to what Snapchat would have us believe. Not every moment of our day is worth recording. Our opinion is that Spiegel, the founder of the application, wanted to make something fun to use from time to time which will make you feel like you have an item ahead of its time. Snapchat Shows are nothing more and perfectly match the DNA of the firm, a “cool” product.
Snapchat just like grown-ups
Snapchat has gone to great lengths to launch its first physical product. Each pair of Spectacles is supplied in packaging worthy of the biggest brands of glasses. Everything is thought to please teenagers, the brand's preferred target. Snapchat logo cloth, yellow box, instructions and external battery to quickly recharge your smart health connected glasses, everything is there. In its storage case, the Spectacles are supplied with a base to display the glasses as a collector's item on your shelves. The plastic used for the frame gives an appearance a little cheap to the product which does not shine by its solidity. We regret that the firm did not opt for carbon or something more resistant.
The least we can say is that Snapchat Shows Do Not Be Discreet. In the street, at work or at your friends, all eyes will turn to you. Difficult to discreetly record such a spectacle frame.

So if you want to acquire these glasses, two solutions are available to you. You can first order them through the brand's website. But if you want to have a memory of this moment (and put it on Instagram!) Then go to the only current physical point of sale of the company in France.
A “snapbot”, a vivid yellow vending machine, was installed at the port of Suffren in Paris opposite the Eiffel Tower in Paris. The location of this robot should change regularly, go to the Snapchat website to find day by day where to go. The sale price is 149 €, three colors are available: black, coral and turquoise. It is not yet known whether the company will then offer them in other cities in France. But to see the policy implemented by Snapchat, we can assume. The idea is to create a mini-buzz and local expectations. Successful bet for the most highly rated firm among young people, the social network has managed to get people talking by marketing an unusual and original product.
