HugOne Unboxing

The French of Sevenhugs deliver here attractive packaging in cardboard thick enough for their HugOne. By the way, we don't forget the little FrenchTech logo on the way. Inside, we discover the monitoring with the two small minihug. But that's not all. A mains connection is also part with various sockets. Very useful when you decide to go abroad. There is also a small manual and two strips or strips of beds where you can install the minihug. In short, complete and satisfactory packaging.

Design HugOne

HugOne is in line with the smart health connected objects of the house, that is to say, discreet and compact while trying to be pleasing to the eye. A challenge that is not always obvious. This is why we note the effort of Sevenhugs to integrate his machine at health home. The end result is pleasing to the eye and the little color schemes, serving as notification and user dialogue, are downright cool. Most of the time, a light sky blue light will come out. At night it goes out, handy if you live in a small apartment where living room, dining room, kitchen and bedroom are in reality only one and the same room. As for minihugs, you won't have to bother with them as long as they are under the bed sheet. Still, they are pretty cool. The advantage comes mainly from the miniaturization which allows to slide the small device in a corner of the bed without being handicapping or annoying for the one who lies down. If you are afraid that it will move, do not hesitate to use the bed bands.

HugOne app

Often, it is a bit quit or double with the applications, it is very functional or not at all. Fortunately, HugOne's belongs to this first category. If there are few functions and buttons, everything is centralized on the health home screen, which makes it extremely easy to navigate and access data.

The same is true for sleep advice. Clearly, difficult not to be satisfied with this Sevenhugs application whose main quality is its accessibility. Even the less initiated will have no problem using it. Small flat, the data sometimes take time to arrive. The other small flaw is the (temporary) non-compatibility with Android. This functionality will arrive during the month of December.

Use HugOne

Let's start at the beginning: the installation. Again what prevails is accessibility. You don't need to be an engineer to operate it, quite the contrary. The app guides you step by step and nothing complicated or time consuming. Allow between 5 and 10 minutes between unpacking and operation. We were talking about notifications earlier. So of course, there are some on the smartphone, but also with this famous color game on the lower part for everything that is sleepy and on the upper part for the air quality. Three colors to remember, blue, pink and orange. For example, the bottom of the OneHug turns pink when it is time to go to bed. It turns pink at the top when the air quality deteriorates. Then just open the window.

Of course, the idea is to have personalized follow-up. You will therefore have to indicate your age, weight and height as well as your sleep goal per night in number of hours. From there, the app works for you and will give you tips for improving your sleep, but will also act as a smart alarm clock that will sound at the end of a sleep cycle to say goodbye to difficult awakenings. What is more, it is possible to follow your night in detail with the periods of light and deep sleep. The same goes for air quality. Everything is displayed on the app with fairly precise measurements and we explain what they mean. You can track the sleep details of the whole family and especially your children. There is still a debate. If everything works thanks to WiFi, the detractors of the waves will not have a say. The minihugs work without Wi-Fi or Bluetooth in the room. During the night, the radio broadcasts produced between hugOne and the minihugs are automatically stopped to protect the family from all unnecessary waves. Data synchronization between HugOne and minihugs takes place only after getting out of bed.

Side autonomy, you have for a moment before having to replace that of minihug. It’s a classic stack. The brand announces about 1 year of autonomy. One of the good ideas is also the compatibility with two other smart health connected objects, namely the Nest thermostat and the Phillips Hue lamp. According to data aggregated by HugOne, the light scattered by one or more Hue lamps from Philips varies in intensity and with the Nest thermostat, HugOne controls the temperature of the house in real time, in the evening to lower it when the whole family is asleep and in the morning to bring her back to a normal diet.

Following several updates, HugOne has come closer and closer to health home automation use. Indeed, it is now compatible with Alexa and IFTTT. Alexa is the artificial intelligence linked to Amazon's health home automation assistants, and IFTTT is a platform on which many smart health connected products come together to be controlled by the same applications. This health home automation shift makes the product more interesting from a certain point of view because it gives it more functionality. However, if you are only looking for a sleep tracker, no progress at this level.

Against competition

The smart health connected sleep market is already very full. And even if the bracelets that analyze sleep are in a different category of product, the user who wants to monitoring sleep without wanting to buy a dedicated device could be seduced. Still, the features on this HugOne are of course much more advanced. As a more direct competitor, we can cite the Withings Aura, which is more complete with the presence in particular of a heart rate sensor. However, the latter is much more expensive, around 300 euros. Sevenhugs therefore positions itself in a price range with relatively little coverage. Still, 179 euros is an important price for the features offered, just like the product of Withings.

The advantages of HugOne by Sevenhugs

> Ultra-guided installation> Design> Accessible> Autonomy

Cons of HugOne by Sevenhugs

> Price> Lack of functionality

Conclusion

With HugOne, the French from the start-up Sevenhugs deliver a quality product, well finished, well thought out and very accessible. The idea of a smart monitoring that interacts through color is great and the mobile app is very well thought out. The fact remains that with a price displayed at 179 euros minimum, we regret the absence of a heart rate sensor or a means of detecting sleep apnea to have an extremely complete product which could push us to take the step of buying. Families are rightly targeted, because for a user who has no children, he may turn more to a smart health connected bracelet, less precise and less detailed in his analysis, but which has the advantage of condense all the functions of activity monitoring.
