Review Mobvoi TicWatch E2: our complete review – Watches / Bracelet smart health connected

[ad_1]

Presented at CES 2019, the Mobvoi TicWatch E2 and TicWatch S2 renew the range of smart health connected watches of the Chinese brand. The changes are numerous, but are they enough? Our complete Review is here to answer this question.

Mobvoi Ticwatch E2

Technical sheet of the TicWatch E2 Mobvoi

This Review was done with a smartwatch that was lent to us by Mobvoi.

A sports profile

The TicWatch E2 broadly retains the design of the Tichwatch Express, with some differences. The element that jumps most in the eyes is the position of the button. Previously positioned on the left side of the dial, it is now on the right. A much more natural place for right-handers who will find their habits.

The thickness has been slightly reduced as well. From 13.55 mm, it goes to 12.9 mm. However, it remains as massive: it is a sports watch and she does not hide it. If you like fine and discreet knockouts, go immediately, you will not find your happiness here.

If you like this kind of smartwatch, you will learn that Mobvoi has worked on the quality of the materials used. The frame is striated polycarbonate and wants to "sustainable, especially under extreme conditions". In fact, in just a few days of basic use, some places were already marked severely.

The bracelet itself is made of soft silicone of good quality, nice, and with two passers to ensure the bracelet. As often, it is a standard format of 22 mm, which allows to replace the bracelet by the one of your choice afterwards.

Overall, she is therefore rather comfortable, but could be better looked after. It is advertised as 5 ATM waterproof so that it can be kept even while swimming.

Screen

For the screen, Mobvoi revolutionizes nothing and remains on conquered ground. We are here in the presence of a AMOLED slab of 1.39 "with a definition of 400 x 400 pixels. This is the average of all watches currently, neither more nor less.

As for its brightness, the basic settings allow to see even in full sun without the slightest problem. Note that it does not have an ambient light sensor and therefore does not adapt to the conditions. You can still adjust this manually, as on all Wear OS watches.

Wear OS, equal to itself

The TicWatch E2 runs on Wear OS 2.2 (formerly Android Wear) with the Android security patch of September 5, 2018. If this is not the most recent patch, the version is up to date.

Mobvoi also adds its touch with custom dials, including a baptized "Calendar" that I personally find very convenient in view of its very simple display. Like the other branded watches, TicPouls, TicExercice, TicSanté and TicClassement are also found.

The first is used to measure his heart rate, with a fairly reliable accuracy to give me the same result obtained with two fingers on my carotid, the second to follow the activity among 6 different exercises (race, margin, bike, swim …), TicSanté aggregates the information of my day (number of steps, distance traveled, calories burned …), and TicClassement compares my statistics to other users to motivate me.

The information provided is, however, fairly standard for replacing these applications with more frequently used apps that may be better suited to a complete ecosystem, such as Google Fit (pre-installed) or full-featured apps.

Apart from that, Wear OS remains as usual a little disappointing on some points, including the lack of some applications, including YouTube Music, yet belonging to the ecosystem of Google.

performances

For development concerns, Mobvoi opted for a SoC Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 2100, yet launched in … 2016. This is an improvement over the previous generation that suffered from its MediaTek processor, but it's a little disappointing knowing that the Snapdragon Wear 3100 is already available and provides a longer battery life.

Moreover, the 512 MB of RAM are sufficient overall, but some animations can sometimes suffer during navigation in the menus. With the optimizations of Wear OS, it became rather rare, but all the same.

Autonomy … "normal"

With its 415 mAh battery, the TicWatch E2 is … in the norm. We find for example a similar battery on the TicWatch Pro and a 400 mAh on the C2. We thus find performances rather banal at this level.

In the idea, the watch is about a day and a half and we get tired of loading it. This is where we regret most the choice of Mobvoi to integrate a Snapdragon Wear 2100 and not a 3100. However, we can say that it remains in the habits of smartwatchs Wears OS, although some stand out a little more and gets to hold up to 2 and a half days.

At the back, the contact with the charger is made by 4 points in metal

As usual, recharging is done by a small magnetic dock on which you have to put the watch. Allow about 1:30 for a full charge, but be careful: you will need a power adapter to connect to a socket, or go through a USB port.

connectivity

The TicWatch E2 is equipped with a localization system (GPS + Glonass + Beidou + Galileo), Bluetooth 4.1 which maintains the connection with the smartphone and possible earphones and WiFi 802.11 b / g / n.

Coupled with its few GB of storage, you can go running without your smartphone and still listen to your music and save your sports data.

Price and availability date

The Mobvoi TicWatch E2 is available today (January 22, 2019) at the recommended price of 180 euros, on the website of the manufacturer, but also at some resellers.

Where to buy the Mobvoi TicWatch E2 at the best price?

  • Nice bracelet (and interchangeable)

  • Waterproof 5 ATM

  • All the necessary sensors or almost

  • Among the cheapest smartwatches

  • Materials that leave something to be desired

  • Autonomy always disappointing

  • Wear OS little followed by Google and developers
