Prana climbing & Yoga clothes: Focus on 100% organic cotton
For over 25 years, PrAna have strived to create PrAna Yoga clothes that help you thrive in any environment, activity and embody your adventurous spirit, so you can focus on what really matters.
Outdoor activity, Climbing, Yoga, Lifestyle, Swimwear, all have one thing in common at prAna, the maximum use of eco-responsible materials (organic cotton, recycled polyester, hemp, tencel …) in order to limit our impact as much as possible on the planet.
Prana meaning
Prana means “Vital Breath” in Sanskrit. And it is a fact: she has always been inspired by this wisdom and the closeness to Nature. It is no coincidence that yoga practitioners also wear these clothes. By working in a logic of sustainability, with the objective of reducing the use of conventional cotton, produced under controversial conditions, Prana thus reinforces its ethical and environmental commitment.
Cotton is not just a widely grown crop around the world. It is also one of the most intensive. Due to the wide use of pesticides, insecticides and other GMOs, the cultivation of conventional cotton has a much greater impact than one might imagine. And comes at the expense of the environment and health. This is the reason why Prana has gradually reduced its use and turned for the Spring-Summer 2018 collection to 100% organic cotton.
Stop chemistry
Conventional cotton production involves the consumption of around 24% of all insecticides used in the world. And 10% of pesticides. In contrast, organic cotton production systems ignore these environmentally harmful products, both toxic and persistent. They limit the acidification of soils and restore fertility.
Preserve water
The importance of water in agriculture is undeniable. But resource management can be improved. It takes more than 20,000 liters of water to produce a kilogram of cotton from conventional agriculture. Of course, organic cotton does not grow like magic without watering it. But it involves less irrigation. Because soil management is optimized and restores a structure that promotes water infiltration.
Ethical work
Growing organic cotton also helps ensure the security and independence of farmers and their families. They are less exposed to toxic products, whether in the fields or in the water resources available to them. The diversity of crops also makes it possible to diversify their income. And protects them from market fluctuations and climatic variations.

And climb her in all this?
You might think that wearing organic cotton clothes for climbing doesn’t radically change the face of the world. Certainly. But it still has a positive impact on the soil, water reserves and the health of small producers. It is therefore an ethical process. But there are more benefits than just clearing your conscience. Organic cotton is also softer, more comfortable to wear. And it’s recommended for those with sensitive skin and allergies.
100% organic, 100% now
More than 36 major textile brands around the world have signed a charter and have committed by 2025 to only use organic cotton. Prana was among the pioneers in this field. A source of pride for the climbing community! Because this year she reached the goal well ahead of her time
