Pleco Smart Water Watch keeps an eye on water usage
Pleco Smart Water Watch is a smart health smart health connected object designed to help you reduce your domestic water consumption. How? ‘Or’ What ? By telling you exactly how much water you are using and for what purposes.
Launched at CES 2021, the Pleco Smart Water is manufactured by the Californian startup Nudge Systems. It consists of four elements. First there is a sensor, then there is a battery operated case / transmitter, a display unit and an iOS / Android app.
Users attach the sensor to their health home’s existing water meter; via an integrated strap. This sensor transmits data to the battery box; which in turn wirelessly transmits the data to the display unit. This unit uses the health home Wi-Fi network to relay data to the cloud for analysis, and the app and itself ultimately display the processed results.
It sounds interesting, but how does it actually work? “Most water meters use the same principle of magnetic coupling between the moving part inserted in the water flow and the dial mechanism. “; Daniela Camargo of Nudge Systems tells us. “We have created a system that detects this magnetic field and processes the signal that comes from it; from a single point at the entrance to the water. Our proprietary and unique algorithms then process these signals and convert them into use for showering, irrigation, flushing, faucet, etc. by analyzing the characteristics of the water flow (flow rate, duration, etc.) ”.
The system would also be able to detect leaks in the water pipe; thus alerting users in the event of a problem. It further provides data such as total water consumption per day, week and month; as well as variations in water consumption at different times of the day.
The Pleco Smart Water Watch can be ordered now. Its price is 249 dollars.
