Pebble officially available in Germany, 1 million sold

The Pebble is now officially available in Germany – around two years after the actual launch. This applies both to the original Pebble, which costs 130 euros, and to the Pebble Steel, which changes hands for 230 euros.

Pebble fans experienced the first hour First a bitter disappointment: At the start of delivery in spring 2013, German customs confiscated the copies sent to Germany due to various formal errors. The authorities criticized the lack of a German-language instruction manual and warnings about battery-operated devices as well as the non-existent EC declaration of conformity.

The manufacturer unfortunately only took care of the problem at a snail's pace, so that the first copies were only delivered to their customers in autumn 2013 – and only because the import to Germany was carried out via the Netherlands and so the customs controls were simply eliminated. Finally, since mid-2014, it was also possible to select Germany as the delivery destination in the pebble store.

And now all formal stumbling blocks seem to have finally been cleared: The European wholesaler Widget UK is bringing the various pebble models to German retail in cooperation with Komsa.

Little quarrels in Germany have of course not changed the success of Pebble over the years. As CEO Eric Migicovsky said in a recent interview, the millionth smartwatch was sold on December 31, 2014. Pebble also has big plans for 2015. Migicovsky promised that there would be new hardware this year – and also a software platform for the watch that is unparalleled in the smartwatch segment.
