Pebble 2 with color display on February 24?
A few days ago, Pebble CEO Eric Migicovsky shared some details about the company's next generation of smartwatches. And now it seems as if it is already in the starting blocks. At least that's what the generally well-informed blog 9To5Mac claims.
A countdown on the Pebble website gives rise to speculation. While some tech blogs suspect the announcement of Windows support for the smartwatch, 9To5Mac wants to know what the company is showing on February 24: the Pebble 2 with new hardware and software.
The tech blog had learned from several sources that the chances of presenting the Pebble 2 in four days are very good. According to the information available, the company's next generation of smartwatches has a color display with improved backlighting. As before, it is said to be an energy-efficient screen that is not sensitive to touch. Compared to the Pebble 1, the display should be a bit larger, but the general design of the wearable should be a bit thinner. The battery life of the smartwatch should remain in the range of up to seven days.
Pebble 2 is said to have installed a microphone that opens up new possibilities for app developers – such as voice recognition within apps. The gadget should not have sensors such as heart rate monitors etc. According to 9To5Mac, however, “smart bands” with integrated sensors are being planned. These are attached to the body and then transfer data to the pebble. However, they should only appear at a later date.
As promised by CEO Eric Migicovsky, the Pebble 2 comes with retreaded software, according to the report. 9To5Mac speaks, for example, of a timeline view in which the latest notifications are listed and many new animations within the user interface. The housing of the wearable device should be made of plastic and have aluminum corners. The price of the Pebble 2 should be on the level of the Pebble Steel.
