Netgear Nighthawk X6 AC3200 R8000 WiFi Router Review smart health innovation

The manufacturer Netgear recently released the Nighthawk X6 AC3200 R8000 sound, a competitive WiFi router with a cumulative connection speed announced at 3.2 Gbits / seconds. What is the machine worth? We have tested it for you.

Brand: Netgear

Category: WiFi Router

Price: 299 euros

Tested with a MacBook pro 2012

Unboxing

Netgear made in the simple, but clean box. The whole is packed in a standard carton itself in the presentation carton. Inside, no frills, we find the router, a power cable, and an Ethernet cable. The latter is also too short …

Design & Ergonomics

A racing machine, that's how we could sum up the design of the router. With an upward face seeming made to pick up speed (it is not at all, I assure you, it's still a router), it has class. As they say, it looks like it’s under the hood. In the center there is a whole bunch of LEDs designating the various functions on the go. At the back, we find a USB 2.0 and another 3.0 port, 4 Ethernet ports to connect a device, another port which will be smart health connected to your WiFi router, the power supply as well as an on / off button for the LEDs and the router itself. Note, however, that Netgear’s device is quite heavy and bulky.

Application

Netgear Genie management software is on a table principle where we find most of the possibilities offered by the application (which is available for download when you connect your computer to the router). It is possible to access all the features offered by the device, and there are many. The whole is well presented and very ergonomic. And speaking of functions, if we dwell on it a little?

Use / Getting started

Installation

As you know, we really like the user manuals at ABsmarthealth.net, especially when they are well done and this is the case for those of Netgear. We explain you step by step how to install the router and no need to do much, two three cable connection and two three manipulations on the computer and go. In short, you don't need to know anything about it to install the war machine.

use

Once installed, all you have to do is use it, but beforehand, configuration is essential through Netgear's Genie software. It is possible to configure up to 3 separate WiFi networks and determine the maximum authorized speed. Parental control is also part of it. You will be able to see a list or card of smart health connected customers. Genie also offers a traffic counter that shows download and transfer speeds as well as local activity. You can also see which Wi-Fi channels are used as well as the difference between yours and your neighbors. It is even possible to receive an e-mail when a new person connects. A feature that should appeal to professionals.

Inside the R8000, there is a 1 GHz processor with 256 MB of RAM and 128 MB of flash storage for firmware, passwords and settings. The big advantage of this tri-band router is that you can manually distribute the bandwidth among its channels, keeping the old devices.

The R8000 has a theoretical maximum speed of 3.2 Gbps. We did a first Review close to the router, we got a speed close to 100 mbps, but when we started 15 meters further, the results were much less convincing. So watch out for the too thick wall which will block the signal, strong or not strong. Disappointment on that side. To put it all the same, the editorial walls are particularly thick and polluted by numerous WiFi networks. So you can expect better results, but don't think you can connect to the city 300 meters from your router.

As for other features, the famous USB ports allow you to put a device and retrieve the content directly by WiFi from any smart health connected device. A good initiative which will once again be much appreciated by the pros.

Support repeaters

Netgear also offers support repeaters and in particular the Nighthawk Extender AC1900 with a maximum capacity of 1900 Mbps supported by 3 external antennas for the widest possible coverage. Still count 179 euros to get it. We have it in the editor and we can't do without it!

Conclusion

At 300 euros, the Netgear R8000 router is one of the most expensive routers in its class. And, even if it doesn't provide the most impressive range, it can safely wrap a very large house with connection speeds to thrill a Ferrari. If you are looking for the high end, you will not be disappointed.

Overview
