A 1st generation smart health connected bracelet that keeps its promises!
The misfit shine is a smart health connected bracelet with an original design that sets it apart from its competitors. It is one of the first generation smart health connected bracelets with "basic" personal trainer functionality. Its price is reasonable, you can find it for around 80 euros on marketplaces.
Despite the huge amount of smart health connected bracelets on the market, there are a few that manage to stand out. The Misfit Shine, produced by the American specialists of Misfit Wearables, is one of them. Its advantage: it does not look like much, it is incredibly discreet, and it is nevertheless very complete. The favorite of most specialists.

Design and ergonomics of the Misfit Shine
Let's start with what makes the Misfit Shine special: its design. It is indeed one of the rare ones not to play the card of high tech and the integrated screen and to base everything on its discretion. The bracelet delivered is very nice and very light, which allows, once put, to completely forget its presence. The fastening system could not be more basic: you thread one end with a loop and hang it on the other side. Namely, it adapts very well to thin wrists, like those of the author of this article, to whom it often happens to rail against overly wide bracelets. If we really want to look for the little beast, we could dwell on the very texture of the bracelet, the simple plastic which gives it a somewhat cheap appearance and which scratch very easily. Color level, you can choose it in gray, black, champagne and topaz.
Thus, the design of the Misfit Shine intends it both men and women, evidenced by the different ways to wear it. The Misfit Shine itself has a round shape, barely wider than a coin. In addition to the supplied bracelet, it can therefore be found in other accessories, such as a necklace, available on the Internet from around twenty euros.
In terms of ergonomics, it's hard not to notice the total absence of buttons or LEDs on the device. In fact, this is not entirely true, since the Misfit Shine actually has twelve LED bulbs hidden under its surface, which will light up according to the level of activity of the day, like a watch . An analogy not completely innocent since the rest of the time, these small lights can be used to display the time, one indicating the hour, the other flashing on the minutes. Information that will appear as soon as you tap on the surface of the smart health connected bracelet.
The Shine app
As a smart health connected bracelet, the Misfit Shine is accompanied by a dedicated application available on Android and iOS. The statistics that you can find there are duration and time to which you practiced your sports activities : swimming, cycling, tennis, basketball, football and walking. Like many other smart health connected bracelets, the Shine also analyzes your sleep : total sleep time and deep sleep, in order to draw up a precise graph of the quality of your sleep. Finally, you can also compare your activity against that of your Facebook friends.
Overall, this application is very well made. We only regret the fact that we cannot share our results on social networks. In addition, there are still improvements to be made on the automation of activity changes and the aesthetics of the application, which is a little too cold and clinical for our taste.
Using the Misfit Shine:
How to interact with an object that has no buttons? In fact, it's pretty simple, because the Misfit Shine stays passive most of the time.
Its metallic surface is not strictly tactile, but it reacts to tapping. So, just hit it twice to display the time and progress for the daily goal previously set on the app. You can also tap three times on the Shine to update it with the information that you changed on the dedicated smartphone app. Example: you are going to cycle, you choose “activity: cycling” in the Shine app, then you touch the Shine three times so that it synchronizes. We regret that this system is not automatic, but these competitors have the same problem. Fortunately, sleep detection is now automatic, which was not the case when the bracelet was released.
Last point: its autonomy. The Shine does not have a rechargeable battery like these similar. He is indeed one of the only ones to use a battery that will need to be changed every 3-4 months (the price of a battery is around 2-3 euros). The good point is that this absence of ports makes it easily waterproof, since the brand claims waterproof to 100m about.
Conclusion
Good points
