Microsoft band without Windows operating system? | ABSMARTHEALTH

Microsoft is proud of its new operating system Windows 10 in public. It should run across platforms on a wide variety of devices. So also on wearables such as the Microsoft Band just released by the company in the USA? Apparently not – Redmond seems to be an exception here.

A Microsoft spokesman told ZDNet.com that the fitness tracker does not run an operating system in the conventional sense, but rather special firmware that is optimized for "low-power devices". A software development kit for developers is expected to be released early next year. Universal apps, such as those running on the PC, tablet or smartphone under the strategy of “one Windows for all devices”, should not be expected for Microsoft's wearable device.

ZDNet suspects that the firmware mentioned is a NET micro framework that was a topic at the Tech Ed Europe technology conference last week. There it was shown under the guise of "Windows 10 platform for wearables", although it is not an operating system in the usual sense and thus also moves away from the "One Windows" route.

Regardless of the question of the operating system, Microsoft's fitness tracker is apparently very popular in the United States. The gadget now appears to be sold out there already – There are even queues in front of Microsoft stores, as you otherwise only know from the launch of new Apple products. Our colleague Keno was there and can at least confirm a strong demand for the tape.

Microsoft has so far not announced plans for a market launch in Germany.
