Huawei Watch: prices between 399 and 799 euros

As part of the IFA in Berlin, Huawei released information about the prices and availability of its first smartwatch. The company can cost up to 799 euros for its "watch".

Asus surprised today positively with the price announcement for its Zenwatch 2: The chic smartwatch will be available from 149 euros. Huawei, on the other hand, was more likely to cause frightened faces at the press conference in Berlin: The company's "Watch" costs at least 399 euros, although it only offers standard Android wear fare on the hardware side.

Like most smartwatches with Google's wearable operating system, the Huawei Watch is powered by a 1.2-core dual-core processor from Qualcomm (Snapdragon 400). 512 MB of RAM and 4 GB of internal storage are nothing special either – LG's first Smartwatch G Watch already offered these specs. The resolution of the 1.4-inch display, protected by sapphire glass, is 400 × 400 pixels higher than that of most Google watches. However, this could also lead to poorer performance than the competition wearables.

The Huawei Watch has a gyroscope, an acceleration sensor, a heart rate monitoring and a barometer. It supports WLAN and of course has Bluetooth 4.1 on board for pairing with the smartphone. The battery of the smartwatch has a capacity of 300 mAh. The gadget measures 42 millimeters in diameter and is 11.3 millimeters thick. Huawei's first smartwatch runs with Android Wear and is therefore compatible with Android devices from version 4.3. Recently, Google's wearable OS can also be used with iPhones.

The Huawei Watch is available in three versions. The classic version with a stainless steel frame costs 399 euros with a black leather strap, with a stainless steel mesh strap or a link chain made of stainless steel each 449 euros. The Huawei Watch Active with a black stainless steel case costs 449 euros with a black leather strap and 499 euros with a link chain made of black stainless steel. And if you have it anyway, you can also get the deluxe version Huawei Watch Elite with a golden stainless steel case for 699 euros (with a brown leather strap) or 799 euros (with a link chain made of golden stainless steel). The Huawei Watch should be available in Germany from September 23.
