Google is working on a smart health connected watch that recognizes user gestures

Google has filed a patent that evokes a smart health connected watch that would work through gesture recognition. A feature that could be shipped on the Pixel Watch, which has been rumored for years.

Soon the Pixel Watch with gesture recognition? This is in any case what might suggest this new patent filed by Google with UPSTO, the US patent office. This document reveals a new way to use a smart health connected watch, by rotating his wrist or closing and opening his fist. Different uses imagined for an unprecedented way of interacting.

This patent recalls the Soli project, unveiled by Google at its conference dedicated to developers in 2016. This project, which had the right to a long demo, showed the research of the Mountain View firm carried out on motion recognition, on smart health connected watches, in particular.

The return of the Soli project

Technology made its way onto the Pixel 4. The smartphone was indeed usable thanks to remote gestures. Once the device was placed, it was possible to interact with it without touching it, to silence an alarm or to go to the next music. If the thing was appreciable and well mastered, it ultimately had little interest in a product like a phone, to the point that Google should abandon it for the Pixel 5.

But this technology could show much more useful on a product like a watch. It's impossible not to think of the Pixel Watch, Google's smart health connected watch that has been rumored for several years now (we were already talking about it in 2018). However, this patent does not in any way mean an upcoming release of the watch.

However, it does inform us that Google is still working on the subject, the patent having been filed recently. We also have a glimpse of what motion recognition might look like on such a product. Likewise, it could also be applied to other sectors, such as health home automation.
