Gear S2: first round smartwatch from Samsung announced

The company Samsung officially announced its first round smartwatch shortly before the start of the IFA in Berlin. The Gear S2 is also available as a classic version for fans of conventional timepieces and optionally with a UMTS module.

Samsung's new Smartwatch Gear S2 runs like the previous models with Tizen-OS. The round AMOLED display measures 1.2 inches and has a resolution of 320 × 320 pixels. It measures 40 × 44 millimeters with a weight of 42 grams, while the 47 gram Gear S2 in the standard version has the dimensions 42 × 50 millimeters. Both watches are 11.4 millimeters thick.

Inside the Gear S2, a dual-core processor clocked at 1 GHz works, supported by 512 MB of RAM. The internal memory is 4 GB. The battery of the smartwatch has a capacity of 250 mAh, in the version with UMTS module it is somewhat more potent with 300 mAh. Sensors include a heart rate monitoring, a barometer, a light sensor, a gyroscope and an acceleration sensor. Other features of the Samsung Gear S2 include NFC, WLAN and Bluetooth 4.1. The wearable is protected against dust and water according to IP68 certification.

The Gear S2 will be available in silver with a white strap and in dark gray with a dark gray strap. The Gear S2 Classic comes in black with a leather strap. So far, Samsung has not given any information about prices and availability.
