Unboxing of the Ellipse
The Ellipse smart health connected padlock unpacks quite easily despite the size of the box. First, it's about sliding the soft tip that wraps the box. Once you've done this, simply open the content in half to discover the material.
Within the packaging, the praise of minimalist art is in order. On one side of the box you find the padlock and on the other a mini user manual for the device. These are the only items you will find within the box. Even the power cable needed to recharge the padlock is left behind.
Design and Ergonomics of the Ellipse
From the outset it is necessary to put things right: the design of the padlock is absolutely not revolutionary. In a black and gray color: the two materials that make up the padlock, namely plastic and steel, make the object uniform. If the object does not seem to be very aesthetic to the naked eye, it is however very practical to use.

Likewise, the shape of the device does not change. Using a concept as old as the world, the padlock therefore remains classic, but effective. The solar panels are placed on the base of the device which can be problematic, because the entire area is not used. Fortunately, a discreet socket is provided to fully charge the device.
On the other hand, the size / weight ratio of the device is problematic: about 12 centimeters in height by 7 in width. By adding the weight of the padlock which is 1 kg, this gives a really bulky and inconvenient object to carry in a bag. Rest assured, as regards the solidity of the padlock, it is foolproof and will give enough trouble to any potential thief. Obviously, it will not resist the blows of a determined thug, but fortunately its application will prevent you from losing your property.
Application of the Ellipse
The Ellipse works with the app called Ellipse Lock. This is available for both Android and iOS services and weighs only 5MB (so is very light). For the configuration of your smartphone, you need the Android 4.4 or iOS 9.1 system. First, you need to create an account in order to get the most out of the device. Once all the steps have been taken, you can then synchronize the padlock with your smartphone.
Via a Bluetooth connection between the lock and your phone, you can use the app to unlock your device or not. Just press your touch screen. You can also activate a theft prevention option. If a malicious person tries to steal your bike, the padlock will immediately send a notification to your phone to warn you. Once the notification has been received, it is possible to geolocate the padlock.
Finally, the other main feature of the device is that it can prevent three contacts of your choice if the padlock detects a fall. This is determined directly via the app via your phone. The choice of contact is made directly from your personal directory and it works in a very simple way. If the padlock experiences a major fall, it automatically alerts your contacts.
Getting started with the Ellipse
Despite its truly imposing size, the smart health connected padlock is quite simple to take in hand. The manufacturer even thought of installing an interface on one side of the padlock. By configuring it beforehand and if you cannot use the application, it is possible to unlock the object using a code that you have determined yourself.

The battery has a lifespan of 6 years, but an hour of charging in the sun will charge the padlock for a month. On the other hand if need be you can always carry out a fast charge with a charger. However, the energy consumption of the padlock without being linked to the application is very low. You can leave it all weekend without it completely discharging.
The major problem with the padlock is that it has a connection via Bluetooth. As a result, people are forced to stay close to their device to operate the app. It is a pity that the Wi-Fi connection is left behind for this time smart health connected objects.
The Ellipse facing the competition
It is important to point out that smart health connected padlocks are starting to be legion on the market. It’s therefore not surprising to see other products blooming and which give the opportunity to make a comparison with the Ellipse. For example, it is possible to highlight the MasterLock padlock, but in its version made for outdoor use. This remains a small format compared to the Ellipse and its massive design.

Unfortunately, the fiasco of the Review that we carried out for the MasterLock makes the comparison complicated. However, getting started with the Ellipse padlock seems to be much simpler than its competitor. First of all because the handling of the padlock depends exclusively on the installation of the application beforehand. The MasterLock also has a Bluetooth application to unlock the padlock remotely, but also sharing for other people.

It is true, however, that the pocket size of the MasterLock padlock argues in its favor compared to the juggernaut that is the Ellipse. The former is much easier to transport than its competitor. In the quality / price ratio, the MasterLock in outdoor version can go up to 120 euros while the Ellipse can go up to 200 euros. If the MasterLock remains a good device, the easy handling of the Ellipse tips the scales in its favor.
Conclusion on the Ellipse
The Ellipse smart health connected padlock remains a decisive object in its range. The smart health connected device developed by Lattis is a major innovation on the market, in particular thanks to the services offered by the application. First of all, because the smart health connected padlock offers an anti-theft option that contacts you directly on your phone in case of a problem. Likewise, the option to contact your loved ones if a significant fall is detected is a significant added value compared to the rest of the market. The big weak point of the object remains its size / weight ratio which is still massive and is heavy to transport.
If the product is not yet officially launched on the European market, it is still available on the manufacturer's website. However the major problem of the device remains its bluetooth connection which restricts the application, while the Wi-Fi connection is left behind. On the other hand, the padlock makes it possible to banish the keys which are likely to be lost in your pockets.
