Unboxing of the Inland Kiwatch

The standard is that a smart health smart health connected object unboxing is now done in simplicity. The Interior Kiwatch is no exception by offering us a childish unpacking. First you have to slide the camera packaging to reveal a white box. The latter splits into two parts to reveal its content. On the top therefore rests a flyer which shows how to easily install the device as well as a sticker informing that the site is under surveillance.

Below its menu items is more interesting content. Namely the camera and its connections. The device is in a cardboard structure which immobilizes it in a simple way. Next to him is a white cardboard box. When you open it, there are a plethora of elements there. Here is the list: a two-meter USB cable, a 50 cm Ethernet cable, a USB socket for the mains and three screws accompanied by their tutor.

Interior Kiwatch Design and Ergonomics

As is often the case with smart health connected cameras, the choice of colors is extremely basic. Again, the Kiwatch Interior does not stand out with its very neutral white and black colors. However, this choice can be explained, as for its counterparts by the desire not to cool customers by an overly ambitious design. Similarly, the round shape of the object does not really make it unique from its competitors.

In terms of its ergonomics, the French camera remains within the specifications of the genre. It is small and discreet enough to be forgotten by everyone, while doing its job. Here are the official figures for its size: 12 cm high by 7.5 cm wide and 3 cm thick. It's very simple, the device fits in the palm of your hand. Even its weight is paltry: 108 grams!

On the back of the device are all the necessary connections for the correct installation of the camera. The latter also has a tripod to facilitate its installation even if it has some balance problems. In addition, the camera can be pivoted from the bottom up and vice versa. On the other hand, the size of the cables given by the manufacturer does not allow you enormous fantasies since the camera depends on a power supply.

If the balance of the camera seems too precarious to be viable, it is possible to fix it to a wall thanks to the fixings provided in the box. Please note, however, as mentioned earlier, the camera only has a vertical pivot axis. So despite having a 120-degree field of view for the camera, you will need to be sure where you are going to place it.

Application of the Inner Kiwatch

The Kiwatch works in perfect symbiosis with an application dedicated to it. Regarding its mobile version, it is obviously available on Android and iOS services. After entering your credentials, your account is directly linked to it. From your smartphone, you can configure and choose the best surveillance options for your camera. The big weak point is the live transmission. The camera has a latency of up to 45 seconds depending on the connection which is already too much! However, the automaker has announced plans to work on new technology based on HTML 5 that should significantly reduce latency. This work will be done to replace the HLS technology which generates greater latency on the various compatible browsers.

So the options offered are quite varied. Or you can record what is happening on camera for a period of 24 hours. If you ever suspect an intruder is in your health home, you can sound the alarm for a minute to deter them. Likewise, you can create an event alert to detect what is happening in your health home. If you ever encounter a major problem during the configuration, you can always contact customer service which is very responsive.

For an optimal use of the services of the camera, it is obviously necessary to make use of the applications previously quoted. All options are available via the mobile app, but also on PC. For individuals, the offer of € 9.99 per month will allow you to benefit from 20 SMS per month for your alerts. The product from the Nantes-based company offers a range of services which they themselves describe as "ehealth benevolence". Indeed, the range of services offered by the subscription is quite new on the French market. Under the prism of this offer the Kiwatch Indoor camera is really useful and practical, however does it manage to surpass references such as the Arlo Pro? The face-to-face must therefore be carried out in the light of our two tests.

The Arlo Pro is powerful, first of all in its application with a palette of choices just as high as that of the Kiwatch. On the other hand, it is impossible to consult the camera options on your computer in order to interact live. When you don't choose a subscription, the Arlo’s videos are saved and stored in the Cloud for 7 days. The Arlo Pro lag is also very light, which is a considerable contribution compared to the Kiwatch.

Regarding the raw performance of the camera, these are slightly better than the Kiwatch. The field of vision for the Arlo is 130 °, so the camera has a self-contained battery made to last around 6 months. Even if the shooting quality is 720p, the Arlo has a cloud where you can connect other devices of the brand. On a price ratio, the Kiwatch remains much more economical (despite the subscription) than the Arlo Pro. But from a quality and return on investment perspective, the Arlo Pro remains a better choice.

Conclusion

At the end of this Review, the Kiwatch Interior is a good quality smart health connected surveillance camera. However, too many problems interfere with the proper functioning of the device. First, the lag of a few seconds compared to the direct of what is filmed. Likewise the dependence on a mains outlet makes the Kiwatch problematic to use. Regarding the Cloud, despite the fact that it is included in the offer and saves videos for 30 days, it is not very ergonomic. Finally, one of the major concerns with the Kiwatch is the quality of its night vision and the sound recordings, both of which are of very poor quality. Even if the cameras are dependent on power outlets, they can offer you a guarantee of certain security.
