Speedtrott ST12 design and ergonomics

We had talked about bikes, scooters, but never about scooters! No unboxing for this Review, because the model was directly provided to us by Alternative Bike. So let's go straight to the design of the racing car. This is a scooter with a fairly classic look: entirely black, she’s a good height, even for someone tall. To be more precise, its dimensions are 100 x 19 x 33 cm.

It has the brand logo on the board and on the stem. This gives it red and white details that give more depth to the overall appearance of the device. The Speedtrott ST12 has a fairly thick appearance, it is not the thinnest model, as shown by these 12.5kg.

As for the practice, the scooter is very simple to set up. Although its weight necessarily affects its ergonomics, it is far from being the heaviest model on the market. It can be fully folded down, but you won't be able to carry it around easily. This function is more useful for storing it than for taking it under the arm.

That's good, when you are outside, the goal will be to ride with it! On this side, no complaints, the Speedtrott ST12 is very easy to use. You quickly understand how it works and what each command is for. Speaking of controls, the ergonomics are very good there too: the throttle is well placed for easy access from the handlebars.

The folding and unfolding operation of the scooter is very simple and intuitive. The two handles fold up by pulling on them in the direction of the arrows which are drawn there. It will then be necessary to press the small button which is located at the joint which appears on the stem to bring in the handlebars. Finally, a folding system on the front of the board will allow you to fold the stem down so that it will hang on the rear wheel.

Overall, this is a very classic model : pleasing to the eye without being particularly beautiful, practical without being revolutionary, heavy without being handicapping. This is a very good model to start the electric scooter.

Using the Speedtrott ST12

The Speedtrott ST12 is a model well known on the market and which sells well. It has already proven itself and we were not disappointed: she drives very well.

It is equipped with a "kickstart" system which makes it possible not to start the engine until the device has taken a minimum speed. It will therefore be necessary to launch the kick scooter (like a normal model) before you can accelerate. This will prevent you from operating it without wanting to.

Once on the road, you may be surprised by the speed of the product, but this applies to all models. When you start the electric scooter, you are not comfortable on the first try. The key is to just kick the gas (the command on the right handle) until you are ready to spin like the wind.

Above the acceleration control, you will find a counter which can display either: your speed, your odometer (for this trip or all), your remaining battery, and a lot of other useful information.

The racing car is equipped with two brakes: one at the front which operates with the control on the left handle, and one at the rear which is activated by pressing on the shell of the rear wheel. These two brakes will give you total control of your device, no matter how fast you go. As with a bicycle, we recommend using the rear brake to avoid the suns.

Speaking of speed, the Speedtrott ST12 can reach a maximum speed of 35km / h. We must however see under what conditions such a speed can be reached. If you're driving in the city, the sidewalk will surely be too full to go that fast, and driving on the road can quickly become dangerous.

Another disadvantage of speed, it consumes the battery faster. No interest, therefore, to push it to the maximum if you only make city trips. The battery is a model of 36 volts, 10 ampere-hours (or 360 watts per hour). It can carry up to 110kg and climb hills with an inclination of up to 20%.

The battery life depends a lot on how you use it, but for a person of 75kg and use in the city, it should last about 20 to 25km. The recharge time is between 4 and 5 hours (from 0 to 100%).

In terms of specificity, we can note the fact that the front wheel is inflatable, it gives it more grip and therefore more comfort. Conversely, the rear wheel is full, which gives you the advantage of not having to manage your pressure, unlike the front wheel.

Difficult for the moment to decide on the place of the Speedtrott ST12 on the innovative mobility market. We are just starting testing these products, and be sure that this Review will be updated when we have tested more models.

For the time being, comparing prices, we can realize that the € 890 of this model is very reasonable. Indeed, these cars can quickly become very expensive. With this model, you will have a very reasonable price / quality ratio. Beware of the weight, however. If you are not very athletic, it may seem very heavy!
