Coronavirus: WearOS smart health connected watches now remind you to wash your hands

To slow the spread of the coronavirus, it is important to wash your hands regularly. In this context, Google has added a new type of notification to WearOS, the operating system dedicated to smart health connected watches. Every 3 hours, a reminder will now ask the user to wash their hands with soap in order to curb the pandemic.

As our colleagues from Android Police report, Google has just updated the clock application integrated by default in WearOS. With version v5.4.0, the app periodically sends reminders to let you know it's time to wash your hands. This daily ritual is indeed part barrier gestures most important in the fight against Covid-19. By default, WearOS displays such a reminder every 3 hours. Obviously, it is possible to modify this setting or delete the reminders.

WearOS also displays a 40-second timer and reminds you to use soap

If the user clicks on the alert displayed on the screen of the smart health connected watch, WearOS opens a 40-second timer. During these 40 seconds, the user is asked to consciously wash their hands to avoid spreading the virus. During this time, the smart health connected watch also displays several reminders in order to don't forget to use soap. When washing is complete, WearOS will close the app and announce the time for the next reminder.

Experts say soap is the best weapon against SARS CoV-2. The soap contains active ingredients capable of dissolving the double layer of lipids that make up the envelope of the virus. It therefore disintegrates the germs present on your hands during washing. Note that soap is more effective than alcohol-based disinfectant gels.
