The Awox SmartLIGHT c9 Mesh is presented in a fairly classic cardboard box. It is not of exceptional quality, but remains thicker than the average. The packaging carries the brand's color scheme: black and green.

The packaging highlights all the technical specifications of the product such as the power, the operating mode, the type of connection, the different uses and functionalities, as well as the material that you will find in the box.

Once the box is open, we come across a very practical mini-guide due to its conciseness and precision. Getting started with the Awox SmartLIGHT c9 Mesh is very easy just with what this little manual tells you. It is also accompanied by the classic warranty booklet.

After removing the cardboard protection, you access the bulb itself. Nothing to say about it, it is well protected above and below by pieces of cardboard which stabilize it.

Design and ergonomics of the Awox SmartLIGHT c9 Mesh

Difficult to talk about design when dealing with a light bulb. Especially since, among the brand's models, the Awox SmartLIGHT c9 Mesh is certainly the one with the most classic look.

It is therefore a simple bulb in the shape of a pear. It has all the necessary inscriptions such as wattage or a ban on throwing it in a normal trash can. We also simply find the Bluetooth logo which confirms the smart health connected nature of the object.

It is less ergonomic than a conventional bulb in the sense that it weighs much heavier. It doesn't make it harder to handle (it's not SO heavy), but may be a problem depending on where you plan to install it. Indeed, some lamps will not take the weight of the bulb well, especially those with a moving head.

Make sure the lamp you want to attach the bulb to is strong enough before making your purchase. The Awox SmartLIGHT c9 Mesh doesn't weigh a ton either: as long as the joints of your lamp are solid, you will have no problem.

As for the installation, it’s hard to make it simpler: it’s a classic bulb. It has an E27 screw cap which makes it very easy to install. Its weight, although a little high, remains reasonable. It will only light the smallest lamps.

Application of the Awox SmartLIGHT c9 Mesh

We encountered a major problem with the AwoxCONTROL application offered by the brand. In fact, after creating an account, you are asked to pair the remote control with the application. However, we never managed to get past this stage.

We did the Review with a Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime and an S6, as well as with an iPad Air. With the first two, the application did not even detect the remote control; while with the second, the equipment did not work.

We were able to see some of our colleagues on the Internet using this application, which leaves us puzzled as to the source of the problem. It is certainly a defect in the remote control that we received, because the smartphones used are compatible with the product.

The features offered by this application are diverse. Firstly, it allows you to group several bulbs in the same group in order to manage them together. The maximum number of bulbs that can be controlled by the application is 50.

Another cool feature is the color palette that allows you to precisely choose the shade you want to apply to your lamp without having to fumble with the buttons on the remote control.

Finally, it is possible to set an ignition time if you want to be gently woken up by your light bulbs, in the intensity and color of your choice.

Using the Awox SmartLIGHT c9 Mesh

As soon as you have screwed the Awox SmartLIGHT c9 Mesh to your lamp, use can begin. You can already turn it on and off using the switch that controls the lamp. To go further, you will have to use one of the three different controllers available: the remote control, the application and the SmartPEBBLE.

For this Review, we used the remote control supplied with the pack which contains the bulb and we tried to go through the Awox SmartCONTROL app. As for the remote control, nothing could be simpler. Just insert the AAA batteries provided in the pack to start using.

The remote control allows you to fully control the lamp in terms of color, intensity, consistency, and preferences. It has four affiliated buttons in the colors blue, red, yellow and green. By pressing this button repeatedly, you can adjust their balance and color the light precisely as you want. Awox promises 16 million possible combinations.

The rightmost button is dedicated to white light classic if you get a little lost in your crazy pink and green settings and want to get things back to normal. The one on the left allows you to adjust the intensity of the light produced, whatever its color.

The button in the center right creates a rosy atmosphere which, we will not hide, evokes establishments with a dubious reputation; or white light soft enough ideal in the evening to rest your eyes.

Finally the button in the center left initializes the flashing of the light as well as the alternation of different colors to create an atmosphere of the most beautiful effect.

As for the application, the first step is to pair it with the remote control. As we told you in the dedicated section, it did not work during our Review. Some of our colleagues were nevertheless able to access it, so it is difficult to define the source of the problem. This poses a serious problem, because it then becomes impossible to set up scenarios such as alarms or detection of the arrival of the user thanks to Bluetooth, damage …

As for the characteristics of the Awox SmartLIGHT c9 Mesh, it is compatible with the majority of luminaires. It is a long-life, low-consumption LED that provides 20,000 hours average lifespan. Finally, it is stored in the energy class A +.

When we talk about smart health connected bulbs, it's hard not to talk about Philips Hue. The reference brand offers inexpensive and complete bulbs. Although they require the purchase of a dedicated hub, they are equipped, in addition to the classic functions, with synchronization with various health home automation devices.

Furthermore, they allow you to create scenarios which will make them work in a very precise way if a very precise case, defined in advance, arises.

The big advantage of the Awox brand is its ability to innovate with musical bulbs like StriimLight or essential oil diffusers like AromaLight. However, we're talking about a basic model here. The Awox SmartLIGHT c9 Mesh is a simple but effective model, economical to buy as well as long term. If you’re not looking for a specific feature that you’ll find on other models, you can't go wrong with this bulb.
