color in your daily life! smart health innovation
The days get shorter, the evenings start early, there is a lack of light. Now is a great time to Review the Holî SmartLamp, a multicolored luminaire smart health connected in Bluetooth 3.0 that transforms the atmosphere of your interior, connects to your music and gently wakes you up.
The Holî lamp is a creation of a young French company (Lyonnaise): FiveFive.
This smart health connected lamp is designed to personalize the atmosphere, at health home or at work, from a smartphone or tablet. For now, it is only compatible with iOS7 but an Android version should be released soon.
We had the chance to Review the Holî SmartLamp lamp at the agency for two weeks. We were thrilled to receive this famous gadget that would light up our office. Here is our Holi SmartLamp Review:
The lamp
By opening the box, we discover:
The Holî lamp (18 individually controlled LEDs. Up to 130 lumens / watt)
An AC adapter (5V / 2A 100-240V)
First impression: it’s a beautiful object with a clean design, an aluminum square of 20cm by 3 cm thick that we can immediately imagine very well in decoration.
The only downside: big blue power cable which swears with the aesthetics of the lamp (and which will prove impractical).
The user manual is minimalist. In summary: plug in the lamp, download the app, turn on the lamp. A little succinous but the app is the most elaborate part of the lamp.
We are therefore in a hurry to download it (available for free on the App Store – iOS version 7.0 or later).
Once the application is downloaded, just plug in the lamp, turn it on while holding the on / off button a few seconds for it to be recognized in Bluetooth from the smartphone, in theory.
We still had to 5 good minutes for the lamp to be recognized by our iPhone, a little laborious, more so thanyou must be within 3 meters of the lamp for it to pick up, restrictive !
We installed it on the edge of a white shelf but the big blue wire spoils our decor a bit.
The application
The aesthetics of the application have obviously been neat : it is pleasant and highlights the choice of colors and moods. In addition, it is easy to understand and its ergonomics are intended for all family members (at least those who run iOS7 …).
It is made up of 5 tabs:
Start to switch the lamp on and off remotely,
Collection to choose your theme,
Music for lighting in musical rhythm,
Alarm clock for a gentle light awakening,
Info.
The category Collection is quite varied and is organized into 8 themes.
The choice of colors and atmosphere is varied : there are all the colors, all the atmospheres. Slow or syncopated rhythms, hot or cold colors, variations on 2 tones or on the contrary very colorful.
If that is not enough, the Holî lamp offers us to compose our own symphonies of lights and effects. Once we understood how to use this option – very few explanations, a first approach not necessarily intuitive – we loved it compose our own script. A frustrating point: you cannot modify the scenes once created.
The music
The Holî lamp offers set the light mood on your music and adapt to each musical style.
First problem: it only works through the app. You must therefore listen to music via your smartphone or tablet, which considerably limits the quality of the musical atmosphere, unless you couple the lamp with speakers. An evolution of the lamp towards a dock functionality would be interesting.
We then tested access to music with iTunes and Deezer.Second problem: you can only choose playlists or albums, you cannot select songs or artists.
After 15 minutes of use, there was little variation in the rhythms and some bugs when switching from one song to another. The atmosphere is nice, of course, but you shouldn’t count on the lamp to replace your spotlights and your mirror ball for your next disco party!
Awakening
We had a hard time setting the wake up option, once again for lack of clear instructions. In use, it is quite similar to conventional light alarm clocks and rather pleasant. On the other hand, there is a fairly strong blue light on the socket which can be annoying depending on the location of your wall outlet.
In conclusion
The Holî made us see all the colors (ok, easy …) but after a few uses, we quickly abandoned it. The initial idea is good but not very successful in use: too many details that get stuck (the thread, the light on the socket, the lack of information…) and few options offered (the composition of the atmospheres complicated , the choice of limited rhythms for music…).
At that price (149 €, all the same…), we found that the (pretty) gadget left something to be desired. No illumination for us, therefore!
To buy this smart health connected lamp at the best price (around 140 euros), go to Amazon.com.
