CES: This Audi smartwatch runs on LG Electronics' webOS
At the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, NV, VW subsidiary Audi is currently demonstrating how a car can be controlled remotely using a smartwatch. The corresponding wrist gadget comes from South Korea's LG Mobile Company and looks quite similar to the Android Wear watch G Watch R. On closer inspection, however, it has now emerged that webOS is used as the operating system instead of Android Wear.
A YouTube video Android Central allows a quick look at the user interface of the webOS Smartwatch and the operation of the device. This is done by touch and three hardware buttons located on the right edge. According to the US tech blog, the watch developed in collaboration with Audi has a SIM card slot – so it can also be used as a telephone replacement.
In principle, however, the gadget works with a cell phone smart health connected via Bluetooth and only in this way guarantees the full range of functions – especially when it comes to remote control of an Audi motor vehicle. So far, there is no information on the more precise technical data of the webOS timer.
While the smartwatch in the video is already quite functional, you can expect smart webOS watches from LG at the earliest on the free market in 2016. This the company revealed the Wall Street Journal. LG sees the devices with the webOS originally developed by Palm and later by Hewlett-Packard as an alternative to the still produced timepieces with Google's wearable operating system.
