Pointed out last year, sex toys are this time admitted to the CES in Las Vegas. If Sex-tech only represents a handful of the exhibitors present at the show, it still manages to be talked about.
This year, if we don't see them very much, we hear a lot about them at CES: sex toys. Stashed in the depths of an aisle dedicated to smart health connected health, you really have to want to find two of the sex toy stands present on the show. Because yes, this season sex 2.0 makes its entrance into the spans of the largest trade show dedicated to consumer electronics … A first after the controversy of last year.
As a reminder, last year, Lora DiCarlo, designer of the Osé vibrator, had two months before the opening of the show withdraw her Innovation Award for her sex toy, considered by the Consumer Technology Association (CES organization ) as "immoral, obscene, indecent, profane or in contradiction with the image of the CTA ". Comments which then caused such controversy that the committee finally decided to present the said Award to Lora DiCarlo.
A small victory, hard to find stands
This anecdote can make you smile. It also reveals that Puritan culture has ended up shrinking at CES and that it is fashionable to open up a bit of customs, in the world of Tech too. This year, at least five manufacturers of sex toys and other vibrators have therefore entered the aisles of the Las Vegas show.
Most of these stands are, however, difficult to access or located at the back of the show, with the exception of that of Lora DiCarlo, which is enjoying a special place this year. There is of course its flagship product, the famous award-winning "Osé", which made the brand known as well as two new products: "Onda", a G-spot robot massager and "Baci", a clitoral stimulator. Two objects intended for women which should be sold at around 300 dollars.
Just opposite, there is also OhMiBod, another stand offering many silicone vibrators, in different colors and sizes.
For all genders
Most exhibitors offer items for women. Hong Kong's Lovense has developed a "masturbator" for men. Gerard Escaler, marketing director for Lovense, explains to his intrigued visitors that this smart health connected vibrator is supposed to facilitate physical relationships from a distance.
This year, the co-designer of the sexess Lioness, Anna Lee, finds her vibrator (which promises to improve the orgasms of the users thanks to a collection of detailed data) in the list of ten products eligible for the price of the gadget of l 'year. A great step forward …
In 2018, this product category grossed $ 24.6 billion, according to a study by eSherpa, and manufacturers expect it to exceed $ 38 billion by 2025.
