Bosch Introduces Automatic Motorcycle Emergency Call System
[ad_1]
If eCall has become compulsory for cars, there are few two-wheelers equipped with an automatic emergency call system. The equipment supplier Bosch presents the Help Connect system, which could become more widespread among manufacturers.
Whereas, according to Bosch, the risk of dying in a road accident is twenty times higher for motorized two-wheeler drivers than for motorists, the automatic emergency call systems, which have become compulsory for New cars in the EU, are still rare on motorcycles and scooters. ECall technology makes it possible to call 112 (European emergency number) manually via a button or automatically if an accident is detected.

BMW Motorrad does offer an optional eCall motorcycle, but this technology, yet claimed by many bikers, is struggling to become more popular on the market. However, it is possible to install such a system after purchase, such as the Digades dguard. The GeoRide multifunction box also includes a fall detector, but it simply alerts the driver's relatives by sending them their GPS position. The latter can in turn contact the emergency services.
Bosch answers the call
Good news, Bosch has just introduced an automatic emergency call system. Called Help Connect, the system developed by the German equipment manufacturer relies on a sensor built into the motorcycle to detect an accident. The algorithm is capable of detecting whether it is only a fall when stopped, in which case it is not necessary to initiate an emergency call. Otherwise, a call is made automatically. However, the system requires that a smartphone be smart health connected via Bluetooth to locate the driver. Help Connect builds on the Vivatar mobile app developed by Bosch, but others like the automakers' could be made compatible.
Help Connect then communicates the location of the driver to Bosch, who is responsible for transmitting this information to the emergency services. Other indications may be communicated, such as health data if the user has shared them with Bosch. This service will initially be offered to German customers, who will be able to communicate with the Bosch call center in the language of Nina Hagen or in English. If they are unable to respond after an accident, help is dispatched to the scene.
Hopefully the Help Connect technology developed by Bosch will democratize automatic emergency calling systems for two-wheelers.
