Android Wear: New update brings interactive watch faces

The latest update from Google will bring numerous new functions to the Android Wear smartwatch platform, including interactive watch faces and direct clock-to-clock communication.

Originally, the latest version of Android Wear was to be pushed onto the existing watches from Asus, LG, Samsung, Sony & Co. later this month. But according to the tech blog Phandroid Google chose August. Android has been available in a dedicated form for smart wristwatches for 1.5 years, but previous updates were small and based on each other. With the upcoming update it will be different.

One of the main features are the interactive watch faces: they can display additional information such as the weather, battery capacity and more at the touch of a button. Customizing the digital watch faces will also be easier.

In addition, Google will give the Android Wear platform a new feature called Together. It enables clock-to-clock communication, as is known, for example, from the Apple Watch: drawing smileys, sending emojis. In the future, applications are to be started differently: Google imagines a user interface in which individual applications are pushed in sideways and then executed. How the whole thing is implemented remains exciting.
