Android Wear: new features and iOS support coming soon?

Artem Russakovskii, founder of the large US blog Android Police, writes on Google+that Android 5.1.1 is in the starting blocks. The update should be rolled out in the next few days. As usual, tablets and smartphones from Google would then be the first. The update to 5.1.1 for Android Wear smartwatches should either take place at the same time or shortly thereafter.

In the case of wearables with Google OS, the update should roll in quite quickly on the various devices available to date. Since the search engine giant does not allow major adjustments on the part of the manufacturer – and thus no major modifications to the update are necessary – the latest software has so far landed on most Android Wear smartwatches at least at the same time.

The latest version of Google's operating system is expected to bring major innovations, especially for Android Wear devices. Only the usual bug fixes and performance improvements are expected for smartphones and tablets. Google wearables with an integrated WLAN chip should be able to connect to the health home network in the future. This would ensure that notifications from the smartphone also reach your wrist when you are out of the cell phone's Bluetooth range in the house. The prerequisite for this is that the phone is also smart health connected to the WLAN.

The second innovation is supposed to be the possibility to operate his Android watch with gestures. By turning the wrist, for example, it should be possible to scroll through notifications. First rumors about these two new features made the round in early March.

Another rumor is currently circulating in relation to Android Wear: The support for iOS already expected for Google I / O should be in the starting blocks. This reports the US tech blog The Verge. The update to Android 5.1.1 may already prepare the way for this. However, it remains to be seen whether Apple would even release the corresponding companion application for the App Store.
