Airspy monitors tire pressure as cyclists ride
Airspy from SKS Germany continuously monitors the tire pressure and tells you if it is too low. It’s important to maintain adequate air pressure in your bike’s tires… enough that just thumb pressure isn’t always enough.
Each Airspy unit consists of two assembled parts. The smart health smart health connected object is composed of a cylindrical pressure detection module. It screws onto the tire’s existing Schrader or Presta valve stem. Then there is an electronic module which fits on this first module; a hook on the side of the latter allows it to be fixed to an adjacent shelf.
As soon as the wheel begins to roll, the Airspy starts up and continuously monitors the tire pressure. It also communicates wirelessly via Bluetooth or ANT + with a smartphone app or a compatible Garmin bike computer.
As long as the tire is within plus or minus 15% of the previously determined optimum pressure, a green symbol appears on the screen of the smart health connected device. However, if the pressure is 15-25% too low, an alarm will sound and the tire symbol will turn yellow. If the pressure is less than 25%, the alarm will sound again and the symbol will turn red.

The Airspy device will automatically turn off if the wheel has not moved for at least 10 minutes. And as a bonus, it can be left in place while the tire is inflated. Thus acting as a digital manometer in real time. It is accurate to plus or minus 1% of actual tire pressure and is compatible with road and mountain bike tires at pressures up to 8.3 bar.
In addition, SKS claims that the Airspy is waterproof and dustproof; and that it tips the scales at 18 grams (0.6 oz). Power is supplied by a CR2032 battery. It should last about 500 hours; the app tells you when it is low.

Finally, the Airspy can be purchased right now, priced at $ 144.99 for a set of two. Potential buyers can also pick up the Quarq TyreWiz for $ 199. Each device is equipped with an integrated warning LED; which allows to use it with or without the application.
