The audio formats are particularly popular with younger people: 40 percent of those surveyed between the ages of 16 and 29 state that they listen to podcasts. However, the majority of Germans have not yet gotten a taste for it: 63 percent of those surveyed say they never listen to podcasts.

A look at the top 10 most popular topics shows: 83 percent listen to podcasts on the coronavirus. This is followed by news (53 percent), comedy (44 percent) and sports and leisure (43 percent). In health and medicine, 39 percent of podcast listeners tune in, a similar number for music (37 percent). With 34 percent of listeners each, the topics of film, television and politics are roughly on par, followed by technology and digital with 33 percent.
